What is CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill)
The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday amidst a ruckus across the country. This bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha had 125 votes in favor and 99 votes in opposition. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, after which after about 6 hours of debate, Amit Shah gave the answers related to the Bill in the House.
Opposition is continuously opposing this bill and is saying anti-constitution. Protests are taking place against this bill in several states of Northeast including Assam. On Wednesday, the proposal to send the bill to the standing committee was rejected. It got 124 votes in favor of not sending it to the committee and 99 votes in protest. Shiv Sena walked out of the House and did not participate in voting.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday that the Citizenship Amendment Bill CAB is not going to harm Muslims. He said that if the country had not been divided and had not happened on the basis of religion, then there would be no need to bring this bill today. Protests have taken place in some parts of the country regarding this bill. Protests in Assam were set on fire and sabotage, after which internet services in 10 districts have been closed for 24 hours there.
